Emergency Mask for Hospital Ventilators
Easy Covid19 is a snorkelling mask adjusted into an (uncertified) emergency ventilator mask. It is designed for health-care facilities in the case of a critical situation where it's impossible to get official medical supplies.
Engineering & consulting company Isinnova developed the device (link: https://www.isinnova.it/easy-covid19-eng/) in coordination with Italian doctors who have been facing acute shortages of C-PAP (continuous positive airway pressure) masks for sub-intensive therapy. Sporting goods retailer volunteered to serve as a supplier, offering its snorkelling Easybreath mask (link: https://www.decathlon.it/maschera-snorkeling-easybreath-id_8526111.html). Isinnova designed and 3D printed new component guaranteeing the connection to the ventilator.
Easy Covid19 was then successfully tested in the Chiari Hospital and has been used since. As neither the mask nor the link is certified, their use is subject to a situation of mandatory need. Patients are asked to formally accept the use of an uncertified biomedical device, by providing a signed declaration.
Isinnova releases all drawings, documentation and any other intellectual property rights relating to the device for free of charge provided that it is NOT used for commercial purposes. All information is available on Isinnova website.
